Policy on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI)
The Moroccan Forensic & Law Journal (MOFORL) supports the responsible and transparent use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in scientific publishing, in accordance with the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
– Responsible Use: Authors may use AI-assisted tools for language editing, translation, and manuscript preparation. However, AI must not replace scientific judgment, intellectual contributions, or critical analysis. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their work.
– Authorship and Disclosure: AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authors must disclose the use of generative AI in manuscript preparation or research, specifying the tool used and its purpose. Conventional non-generative spelling and grammar checkers do not require disclosure.
– Scientific Integrity: AI must not be used to fabricate or falsify research data, references, clinical findings, forensic evidence, or scientific conclusions. AI-generated or manipulated forensic and medical images must never be presented as authentic evidence.
– Confidentiality: Authors, reviewers, and editors must protect confidential patient information, autopsy records, judicial documents, and unpublished manuscripts. Such materials must not be uploaded to external AI systems without appropriate authorization and adequate safeguards.
– Editorial Responsibility: Peer reviewers and editors must exercise independent professional judgment. AI must not replace human editorial decisions. Reviewers must obtain editorial authorization before using GenAI in manuscript assessment.
– Non-Compliance: Undisclosed or inappropriate AI use may result in manuscript rejection, correction, or retraction, depending on the circumstances and in accordance with publication ethics procedures.
MOFORL will periodically update this policy to reflect developments in AI technologies and international publishing standards.
